Call for the service industry to back ‘Purple Tuesday’

A Rotherham solicitor is calling on local businesses to join retailers in Purple Tuesday, a charity led initiative aimed at improving the shopping experience for the disabled.

Whilst the event, to be held nationally on 13 November, is aimed at reminding retailers that disabled customers need to be considered, Fiona Shinner, senior partner at Parker Rhodes Hickmotts Solicitors is hoping that the service industry will also get behind the initiative.

Fiona said: “Although the emphasis is on shopping, we should not forget that easy access to essential services is also important.

We understand that accessing legal services can be daunting at the best of times; the last thing people then need is the fear of inaccessible buildings and facilities.

Physically disabled visitors arriving at our head office at The Point, on Bradmarsh Business Park, will find disabled parking bays right by the door and level access in to the building. All the doors are wheelchair friendly and we have a low level reception desk so that wheelchair users are greeted by our friendly receptionists, not a wall of wood or plastic, as is the case in some offices.

Purple Tuesday is a fantastic initiative, and hopefully the publicity around it will make everyone think about improving the experience for the disabled on a daily basis, not just as a one day event. “
