Trainee Immigration Caseworker

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts Solicitors is looking to appoint a Trainee Caseworker for their Immigration Department.  We require the Trainee Caseworker to be based in our Rotherham office, but with the flexibility to work at any of our offices, especially our Wakefield office.

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts is a long-established firm that has four offices across Yorkshire and a total team of around 70 employees. The firm has been undertaking immigration work for a number of years. There are currently twelve fee-earners and six support staff in the Immigration Department which deals with legally-aided asylum work and private immigration work.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Ability to conduct general immigration/asylum casework to a very high standard
  • Ability to obtain excellent knowledge of immigration/asylum law and practice
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

The candidate should have at least 2 A Levels, as well GCSE English & Maths. A degree would be preferable, but is not essential. Experience of working in a legal environment is desirable.

Most importantly the candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability, desire & commitment to become a member of The Law Society’s Immigration & Asylum Accreditation Scheme in a short period of time.

Clean driving licence & own car would also be preferable.

Salary will be competitive & will be dependent on qualifications and experience. The firm operates a performance-related bonus scheme.

Family Solicitor/Legal Executive

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts is a long-established law firm that has four offices across Yorkshire and a total team of around 75 employees.

 We are currently seeking to appoint an experienced Solicitor or Legal Executive to join our well established Family department, specialising in divorce, financials, domestic abuse and private law children matters,

 This role will be based at our town centre office on Moorgate Street in Rotherham.
There are currently four fee earners and four support staff in the department.

 Ideally we are looking for someone who is on, or working towards Advanced Family Law Panel membership.
Mediation experience would also be an advantage.

 The ideal candidate will be expected to:

  • undertake existing and new Family matters, in-line with the guidelines, policies and procedures detailed in the Firm’s Office Manual.
  • handle all client matters in a professional and efficient way,
    ensuring clients and those associated with the case are informed regularly of the current position.
  • Attend on clients, take client’s instruction, prove appropriate legal advice and attend Court as required;
  • keep expenditure within budget limits, as agreed with clients or within the criteria as set by the Legal Services Commission
  • achieve personal fee-earning and chargeable hours targets, which will be revised annually, and effectively contribute to the team performance targets;
  • undertake personal development within the criteria specified by the Law Society, Legal Services Commission, associated professional bodies and the Firm.
  • actively keep up-to-date with case law and changes in legislation which may affect areas of specialism.
  • undertake all duties in-line with Professional Standards and the Firm’s policies and procedures;
  • be fully IT literate, have excellent organisational, advocacy and both written and oral skills.

This is a permanent position. The contracted hours are 9am to 5:15pm Monday to Friday, although part time applications may be considered.

Salary will be competitive and will be dependent on qualifications and experience. The Firm operates a performance-related bonus scheme.

Assistant Solicitor – Child Care (2-3 years PQE)

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts is a long-established law firm that has four offices across Yorkshire and a total team of around 75 employees.

We are currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Solicitor, specialising in Child Care, to join our well established Family department.

This role will be based at our town centre office on Moorgate Street in Rotherham.
There are currently four fee earners and four support staff in the department and this role will be working closely with an experienced Child Care Solicitor.

Ideally we are looking for someone who is at least 2 – 3 years PQE with previous experience of dealing with Child Care matters.

The ideal candidate will be expected to work with the Senior Solicitor to:

• undertake existing and new public and private children matters on behalf of children, parents and other relevant parties, in-line with the guidelines, policies and procedures detailed in the Firm’s Office Manual, and develop links with Children’s Guardians for the South Yorkshire Court area;

• handle all client matters in a professional and efficient way, ensuring clients and those associated with the case are informed regularly of the current position. Attend clients, Court and Judicial Hearings as required;

• keep expenditure within budget limits, as agreed with clients or within the criteria as set by the Legal Aid Agency;

• achieve personal fee-earning and chargeable hours targets, which will be revised annually, and effectively contribute to the team performance targets;

• undertake personal development within the criteria specified by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and associated professional bodies.

• actively keep up-to-date with case law and changes in legislation which may affect areas of specialism.

• undertake all duties in-line with Professional Standards and the Firm’s policies and procedures;

• be fully IT literate, have excellent organisational, advocacy and both written and oral skills.
