Immigration Billing Clerk

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts Solicitors is looking to appoint a Legal Aid Billing Clerk to their Immigration Department. The candidate would be based in our Head Office in Rotherham.

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts is a long-established firm that has four offices across Yorkshire and a total team of around 75 employees. We have been undertaking immigration work for a number of years and we are recommended in both Chambers UK and the Legal 500. Currently we have ten fee-earners and five support staff in the department and we undertake immigration work from all four of our offices.

The main tasks will involve:-

  • Preparing files for billing
  • Processing of Legal Aid bills via our Case Management System, LAA Online & CCMS
  • Processing files to be sent to external cost draftsmen for bills to be drawn up
  • Processing of bills with enclosures to Supreme Court Costs Office
  • Assisting with Legal Aid payments on account
  • Assisting with payment of invoices
  • Processing of bills post assessment & preparing final costs certificate
  • General administration of documents- filing, scanning and archiving

The successful candidate must have:-

  • Good attention to detail
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative & to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills with ability to process information using relevant software (databases, spreadsheet packages).

This is a part-time position, although the precise number of hours undertaken is open to discussion. It is likely the position will be for between 15 and 20 hours per week (flexibility at busy times would be a bonus).

Salary will depend on qualifications & experience, although is likely to be in the range of £8 to £10 per hour.

Assistant Solicitor – Child Care (2-3 years PQE)

Parker Rhodes Hickmotts is a long-established law firm that has four offices across Yorkshire and a total team of around 75 employees.

We are currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Solicitor, specialising in Child Care, to join our well established Family department.

This role will be based at our town centre office on Moorgate Street in Rotherham.
There are currently four fee earners and four support staff in the department and this role will be working closely with an experienced Child Care Solicitor.

Ideally we are looking for someone who is at least 2 – 3 years PQE with previous experience of dealing with Child Care matters.

The ideal candidate will be expected to work with the Senior Solicitor to:

• undertake existing and new public and private children matters on behalf of children, parents and other relevant parties, in-line with the guidelines, policies and procedures detailed in the Firm’s Office Manual, and develop links with Children’s Guardians for the South Yorkshire Court area;

• handle all client matters in a professional and efficient way, ensuring clients and those associated with the case are informed regularly of the current position. Attend clients, Court and Judicial Hearings as required;

• keep expenditure within budget limits, as agreed with clients or within the criteria as set by the Legal Aid Agency;

• achieve personal fee-earning and chargeable hours targets, which will be revised annually, and effectively contribute to the team performance targets;

• undertake personal development within the criteria specified by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and associated professional bodies.

• actively keep up-to-date with case law and changes in legislation which may affect areas of specialism.

• undertake all duties in-line with Professional Standards and the Firm’s policies and procedures;

• be fully IT literate, have excellent organisational, advocacy and both written and oral skills.

This is a permanent position. The contracted hours are 9am to 5:15pm Monday to Friday.

Salary will be competitive and will be dependent on qualifications and experience. The Firm operates a performance-related bonus scheme.
