What is an eVisa?

An eVisa is an electronic record of a person’s immigration status.

It removes the need for physical documents such as the biometric residence permit (BRP), ink stamps or vignette visa stickers in passports, or the biometric residence card (BRC). The BRPs and BRCs will not be issued after the 15 October 2024 and all BRPs and BRCs will expire on the 31 December 2024. Therefore, anyone with such documents can now create a UKVI account and register for eVisa.

An eVisa explains the immigration status of the holder, including the conditions of the immigration permission such as any limitations on their right to work.

Those with an eVisa can view their eVisa by logging into the view and prove service using their UKVI account and share relevant information about their status securely with third parties, such as employers or private service providers such as letting agencies.
